Thankfully, this whole process has gotten much easier in newer iOS versions.This feature, introduced by Apple in iOS 11 and persisting in iOS 12, is called "Share Your Wi-Fi," and it does exactly that. If you want to connect to a friend's Wi-Fi network but nobody at the location can remember the password, a few simple taps on someone's already connected device can instantly populate the "Enter Password" screen on your device and get you connected right away — and no one has to remember or type out any passwords.Pretty sweet, right? No more writing and typing out long, complicated passwords. No more worrying about a friend actually knowing your password. No more stupid QR codes to deal with. No more ugly NFC tags. RequirementsIn order for this to work, iOS 11 (or higher) or macOS High Sierra (or higher) is needed on both devices, and make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggled on. If one device doesn't have at least either iOS 11 or macOS High Sierra, it won't work.As long as these requirements are met, it will work no matter if you have an iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac computer. In our case, we're using two iPhones as an example.

Step 1: Choose the Wi-Fi NetworkOn the iPhone that needs internet access, open up the Wi-Fi settings and select the network you want to connect to. While they won't be able to see the password on their device, if it gets stored in their Keychain, they'll be able to view it on their Mac after syncing. Tip #1: Limit BacklightMost of the time, you're scrolling though apps or tapping out a couple messages, so there aren't many reasons why your screen should be on when you're not actively touching your device. It does makes sense when reading an ebook or watching a movie, but those apps come with features that prevent your device from sleeping anyway.To reduce the drain your screen puts on your battery, you may want to drop the screen sleep time to 30 seconds. You can find more timeout options in Settings -> Display & lights -> Sleep.

Tip #2: Create a Battery Saving ProfileSince the OnePlus One runs CyanogenMod, it also ships with their profile system. Profiles are preset settings that can be applied directly from your Power menu.You can set up profiles from Settings -> Profiles, and I would recommend creating one to save power. By that, I mean creating one that disables Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Data Sync, and other battery hogs. When creating a profile, be sure to tap the checkbox next to the connection you want to override, then select the option to disable.

Tip #3: Check for High Usage AppsOne great feature that comes with every Android device is the ability to check which apps are using your battery the most—these stats are found in Settings -> Battery.There, you can find your battery history from you current charge by tapping the graph under your charging state. Tapping an app will show how much of the battery was used by that app. This will definitely come in handy when you find your battery draining abnormally fast. If you have the Kill app back button setting enabled in Developer options, you can use it to kill any battery-hogging app you're currently in using a long-press of the back button.

Tip #4: Reduce Max Clock SpeedIf your battery is in a life or death situation, or you think you aren't going to need to use your CPU to its full potential, you can always reduce its frequency. The CPU frequency determines how fast your processor can execute commands, and by lowering it, you reduce the amount of processes, and therefore reduce battery usage. The SnapDragon processor running your One has a default max frequency of 2.5 GHz (2457 MHz), but you can safely reduce it to 1 GHz (1036 MHz) to save some power. While 1 GHz might be low for some users, you can always select a different speed in Settings -> Performance -> Processor -> Maximum CPU frequency.

Tip #5: Enable Power Save ModeUnder the same Performance settings we used in the previous tip, there's also an option to enable Power Save Mode in Settings -> Performance -> Profile.This mode only lowers your CPU frequency, but if you want a bigger impact in saving some power, you can always use the Snapdragon BatteryGuru, which can be downloaded directly from Google Play and optimizes your battery based on your usage. Keep in mind that BatteryGuru needs a few days to get the most information about your battery. To enable Auto Power Saving Mode in BatteryGuru, go to Settings -> Lower Power Mode, and set a target battery percentage for it to be enabled. After I traded in my Samsung Galaxy S5 for an iPhone 5S, the one feature I truly missed was the Smart Remote app. My television remote was broken and the S5 saved me from, you know, actually having to get up and change the channel.But thanks to Henrik Edwards and his JustABlip app, available for free from the iOS App Store, I can bring those same Samsung Smart Remote features to my iPhone. Step 1: Install JustABlipFind JustABlip in the iOS App Store, then install it to continue.

Step 2: Connect Your DevicesYour Samsung Smart TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone in order for the remote app to connect. If your TV is not connected to your network, go to Menu -> Network -> Network Settings on your TV to connect.In JustABlip, select "Find TV" at the bottom and the app will automatically detect all compatible TVs connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Your TV must be turned on for the app to connect—unfortunately, JustABlip cannot (currently) power on a TV. Select "connect" on the next screen and a popup will appear on your TV screen: Once you select "Allow," JustABlip will be able to control your Samsung Smart TV. If you run into issues with your TV denying access to your device, go to Menu -> Network -> All Share Settings and allow JustABlip from there.

Step 3: Add the WidgetWhat makes this app really useful is the ability to use it as a Notification Center widget. Bring down the Notification Center, select "Today," and hit "Edit" near the bottom of the screen. In the next section, select the green + icon next to JustABlip to add the widget to the Notification Center. You can move the widget up or down in the list using the three horizontal lines to the right. Tap on "Done" when ready. The widget allows you to change the channel and volume. But for all other additions like favorite channels, numeric keyboard, and more, you'll have to shell out $4.99 to add those options to the widget. But even without, all these options are available through the actual app.

Step 4: Be the Tech-Savvy Couch PotatoThere is an unrivaled convenience of being able to control your TV without the need to look for the remote (which is always lost) or worry about replacing its batteries. If you wish to add or remove functions to the remote's interface, you can do so by selecting "Customize" and adding, removing, or reordering the controls.
