How To: Use Hashtags in Texts to Quickly Share Locations, Music, & Other Info on a Galaxy Note 2 or Other Android Phone
If you're a Twitter user, it's a safe bet to assume that you've used a hashtag. On all social networking sites that have the capability, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Google+, the pound (#) symbol is used to mark and designate specific keywords or topics in order to make it effortless for users to connect with one another.While hashtags are extremely popular now, their reach hardly extends past anything that isn't directly on a specific social network.Well, thanks to developer Corey Zumar (aka Gold1e), the reach of hashtags has just increased a bit more with his new Android application PoundMe, which allows you to share information and other media hashtags via text message! Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Download & Install PoundMePoundMe, which is on the Google Play Store for free, requires permissions to your text messages, obviously, and other things like "services that cost you money," but don't worry about that. It just means that you're granting PoundMe access to your dialer, just like you would with a replacement dialer app. PoundMe is completely free.

Selecting Search Applications for Specific HashtagsWhen you open PoundMe for the first time, you'll be taken through a short tutorial. Skip or read through it and then you'll be able to select the applications that open up for corresponding hashtags.For example, let's say someone sends me a hashtag about music (ex. #music The Rolling Stones). When I tap the hashtag, it'll open up with the application I chose. Below, you can see the options for the apps when searching for music, with the choice to add a secondary app in case the first one isn't working for you. You'll be able to attribute different applications for several categories, such as news, videos, news, movies, and products.Once you're done selecting these, you'll be able to start sending and receiving hashtags through text message, but first, we'll go through the different hashtags and how to properly type them in.

Figuring Out PoundMe's Predefined HashtagsTo figure out which hashtags work, you can press the plus sign in the top right corner of the application. This will take you to the different categories and their specific hashtags that you can use. If you go to Locations, you'll see hashtags such as #location, #place, and #at. After a while, you'll memorize the different hashtags, so you'll be able to enter them without having to go through the list.

Sending Hashtags to Friends with PoundMeIf you want to send a hashtag to a friend, make sure they have PoundMe installed on their Android device (there is no iOS version yet). If not, they won't be able to open up their hashtags. They'll still be able to see the pound sign (aka number sign or hash sign), but tapping on it will do nothing.To send one, just enter one of the hashtags you learned from the list and write whatever you want them to discover right after. If I want a friend to learn about Tame Impala (a band), send them Listen to #music Tame Impala.
How Hashtags Differ in PoundMeThe use of the hashtag is a bit different than most other ones, as you'll need to put a space between the keyword hashtag (e.g. #music) and the specific bit of information you want someone to see (e.g. Tame Impala).Make sure to only write what you want them to see after the hashtag, and not something like #music Tame Impala they're really good, because PoundMe will read everything after the hashtag. So, make sure you write anything else you want to send them before the hashtag.

Receiving & Opening a Hashtag in PoundMeIf you're receiving a hashtag from someone else, you'll receive a text message as usual, as well as a notification from PoundMe, telling you the type of hashtag it is (music, location, etc.). When you swipe down the top Status bar, you'll see the notification for the hashtag. If you tap on the notification (red box in right screenshot above), it'll open with the corresponding application that you chose during the short tutorial. I chose Spotify for any music hashtags, so that's what opens up (left screenshot below).If you want to open it with your secondary app option, tap on the option located below the notification in the Notification tray (yellow box in right screenshot above). I chose YouTube as my secondary option (right screenshot below). If you receive a location-based hashtag (#at, #location), it'll open up using your stock Maps app, allowing you to easily find out simple information about the location as well as how to get there.
Overall ImpressionSince the application is fairly new, many people won't have it, thus friend-on-friend pounding will be scarce at first. This type of hashtag integration should have already been integrated into Android's stock firmware, but I cans see this app blowing up pretty soon. It's very easy to use and makes accessing important information very quick and easy.Let us know how you like it!

Step 2: Check for UpdatesOnce your account is enabled, you can proceed to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update. If no update is immediately available, press Check for Updates instead to see if one exists.
Note: About Account InfoYou may download updates without an account, but some updates may ask prompt you to do so.

Step 3: UpdateIt will check to see if there are any updates available. If there are it will inform you, and then begin to download. You will want to be on a Wi-Fi network and have your device plugged in. Depending on the size of the update, it could take a while.

Step 4: RestartWhen the download is complete you will be notified and must restart your device. Pretty easy. And don't be surprised if there aren't any updates available for your GS3. The newest Android operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat, has been unleashed with the arrival of the Nexus 5, and soon to be rolled out to other Nexus devices and Google Play Edition smartphones any day now. Only problem is, the Samsung Galaxy S3 isn't getting 4.4 for a very long time. It doesn't even have 4.3 Jelly Bean yet.But that doesn't stop us softModders from enjoying a few new things here and there, like the new KitKat home launcher, which has a new home screen and app drawer look, and the new Google search, which incorporates more hands-free features. In this softModder guide, I'll show you how to get the new Android 4.4 KitKat launcher on your GS3, or pretty much any other device running Android 4.1 or higher. Step 1: Download the FilesThere are three main files that you will need in order for the launcher to work. They are all standard Android features, just with different names.PreBuiltGmsCore.apk (Google Play Services 4.0) Velvet.apk (Google Search) GoogleHome.apk (Launcher) You can find all three files by downloading this link. These are zipped files, so the easiest way is to unzip them on your computer and drag the unzipped files to your GS3 via the USB cable.
Step 2: Enable "Unknown Sources"Since these aren't from Google Play, you'll need to allow the installation of outside apps onto your device. To do that, go to Settings -> Security -> Device Admin and make sure Unknown sources is checked.

Step 3: Install the KitKat LauncherAfter downloading the files onto your device, you can now go ahead and install them. When installing, you will receive a pop-up message stating that you will be replacing a system application. Click OK to move on.I installed Google Play Services 4.0 first, which did cause my phone to restart. After that, I went ahead and installed Google Search and Google Home. This has been tested to work on most 4.1+ devices. There is always a risk when altering system files and we are not liable for any damage that may (probably not) occur.

Step 4: Select Your New LauncherAfter proper installation, you will then have to select the Google Launcher next time the Home button is pressed. After choosing the Google Launcher, you will be sent to the welcome screen.

Your New Home Launcher LayoutKitKat introduces a new and sleek launcher and home screen redesign that makes it super easy to organize your apps on the home screen into neat and tidy folders, which you can create by dragging an app onto another one.That is way simpler than dragging the app up into the edit bar on TouchWiz to create a folder. Plus, the folders look nice, unlike the clumsy TouchWiz ones. The app drawer still holds all of your apps, just like before, and the app drawer icon looks pretty much the same as it did before, just smaller and in the middle of the bottom part of the screen now. If you have a Nexus 7 tablet or other Nexus device, it's pretty much the same feeling, only now it's on your GS3!

Hangouts on Your GS3Google brings its messaging program to the new homepage. You will see Google Hangouts right next to the app drawer icon. If you are linked to your Google account, here is where you will find recent chats from Gmail as well as your Google+ friends. Here you can start a video call or continue a chat that you left at your desktop.

New Google Search Is More Hands-FreeAlso amongst the new changes is a supped up search. In the previous operating systems, you needed to press the microphone to access the voice search option. Now, in 4.4 you can simply say "Ok Google," to automatically activate the search hands-free. This feature is similar to the Moto X's Active Listening, but only works when the screen is open to the homepage.

The Google Launcher Settings MenuThe Launcher Settings can be accessed at the home page by pressing the Menu button.
